SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1

Created by Daruma Productions

Torn from the pages of the science-fiction horror RPG "SLA Industries", Cannibal Sector 1 comes to life in this tabletop skirmish game.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Deconstructing the Wraithen..
over 7 years ago – Tue, May 09, 2017 at 11:27:25 PM

Good Afternoon, Citizens of Mort.

This update will be a little different - we will be taking a look at the new Reton - Wraithen Sniper model from more of a.. World of Progress... perspective.

Reton - Wraithen Sniper
Reton - Wraithen Sniper

Up until now - a lot of these updates have looked at the Miniatures, the production schedule, snippets of rules and so on.. We haven't, as yet, really looked at the setting for the game - beyond the ruins of CS1, SLA Industries is predominantly set in the backdrop of the glittering commercialism of the World of Progress. So, let us use Reton as an example and dive right in..

Reton - Wraithen Sniper

Sounds awesome? Right! But what is a Wraithen..?

When Mr Slayer conducted his infamous hostile takeover of the entire Galaxy, in his infinite Wisdom he allowed certain races to survive. Races, that he deemed could have a productive and useful place in his New World of Progress. The Wraithen, or Wraith Raider, are one such race.

So, which is it? Wraithen or Wraith Raider? Well, its both - Wraithen is the collective given name for the Species, Wraith Raider is the slang that many of them prefer to be known as - because its "cool". Its like referring to a Scotsman as Scottish or Scot or even Scotch in some places; all mean much the same thing and are all recognised as such.

Wraithen are a Predator race, originally evolving on an Arctic planet they have naturally evolved superior senses, instincts and hunting ability. Physically they are extremely fast - slender of build yet muscular, they are born and bred for the hunt.

Appearance wise - they have a strange hide, on the Ice Worlds their fur grows long and white and their eyes fade to pale pink. However, if they then return to warmer planets like Mort, their hair thins out til it is almost unnoticeable at a distance. In warmer climates, the Wraith Raider has the semblance of human hair- however it is usually navy blue or deep purple, and his soft velvet-like fur is the colour of lavender with a mottled pattern similar to a leapord. The typical Wraithen wears a coolant suit, which regulates their body temperature.

Brainwasters regard Wraithen as "The Wraith Raiders are, like, dead cute. Kinda like big teddy bears that go for your fridge at a party."

Reton is typical of her species - lightning quick with a sense for hunting her prey. She has been trained to a razor edge by SLA Industries, and has equipped herself with the best equipment currently available, that she can afford.

All the Toys!

This is where one of the most fun aspects of the SLA RPG comes into play! The Toys!!!

FEN 93 Sniper Rifle
FEN 93 Sniper Rifle

The World of Progress is glamourous and commercial - money talks, and when the Operatives go shopping, they do so with amounts of cash way beyond the potential for the normal citizen in the street to ever even dream of having.. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the Weapons and Armour available to the successful Op.

In the SLA RPG and supplements - there are a massive spread of Melee weapons, Guns, Armour, Equipment... and much of it is customisable! And, whilst its not really possible to go into the detail of customising individual weapons and armour in a Wargame setting - however, it may become possible to build in the potential to customise the individual..

So, back to Reton - she currently adores her FEN 93 GAG, and treats it with all the respect and love that such a fine weapon surely deserves. Being a Wraithen, she very much believes in ensuring that she always has the best kit, and that she is seen to be "better" equipped than the next Wraithen. After carefully consulting the specifications on every Sniper Rifle available on the market - Reton chose to purchase a relative newcomer to the Sniper rifle market - the FEN 93 GAG.

"The FEN 30-30 True Shot has been the single best selling sniper rifle for 2 centuries. Now is the time for change, to bring forward new designs and ideas. For operatives that prefer a more compact form of armament but still like the power of a sniper rifle, FEN had introduced the FEN 93 GAG".

So, the FEN 93 is compact, can switch between single shot and semi auto, has a 10 round box magazine, takes 12mm rounds, comes ready to fit with Silencer, flash suppressor, sights and recoil baffling. More importantly to a Wraithen! Its shiny and new..

That last bit is very important to a Wraithen - if its not "cool", what is the point?

Judging by the fact that her backup weapon is a FEN AR, its likely that Reton either has, or is trying for  - a sponsorship contract with FEN.

So, Reton has her rifle - custom fitted to her physique, fully recoil baffled, sights ranged in for her personally. And she loves it.. til the next shiny Rifle comes along.

For Armour - there really was only 1 choice for her;

PP112 Silverback

The current trend is for thicker, stronger armour with a great deal of added extras, such as anti-dazzle, internal air supply, special optics and so on. The Power Projects' Silverback changes all that. Being small, compact, extremely fast and offering protection which other armour types in its class lack. The Silverback is the way forward.

The Silverback is practically designed for Scouts - based on a Mk 12 Exo base chassis, the PP112 is is powered so that the Silverback operates at a constant 165% of its normal power output. Giving you, the wearer, an outstanding amount of speed and maneuverability.

The flight system on the Silverback is powerprojects newwest step forward - the sky is now yours.

In short, this suit makes you faster, more agile and gives you limited flight capabilities. It also comes with integral high adhesion grips, reflex activated knee, elbow and hand spikes and shock absorbers enabling you to climb far more swiftly and easily.

Silverback - optimised for Wraithen Physique
Silverback - optimised for Wraithen Physique

So, you have a natural born Predator with superior agility and reflexes clad in a speed enhancing armour that also increases agility, reflexes and gives them limited flight capabilities.. ? Doesn't that sound like fun?

Operatives

Within the structure of the SLA Industries: CS1 Skirmish Game there will be many "named" Operatives; Reton, Ministry, Shine, McNultie, Joe Fade, etc.. Once the Core game is released - there will be miniatures and stat cards for each of these.

A "Named" character is slightly more powerful, but is also more constrained - in that you cannot change their weapons / equipment / ability loadout much. This is intentional, as a Named Character is a set, specific individual.

One of the first expansions, post KS delivery, will be an Operative Manual that will allow you to customise your Ops to your own cunning plans! We have playtested some very early, rudimentary rules on this and they worked superbly - we don't want to focus too much time or resource on this until we have the Rulebook and Stat cards out and get the game properly launched, but afterwards the Operatives Rules are high on our priorities as you will be able to put together an Operative that you have designed from the ground up!

- I.e. Human Operatives will be available in Body Blocker, HARD, Powercell, Silverback, Crackshot or even Dogeybone armours (probably more!).

- You select your Human template, adjust stats and abilities for the armour and then give them a weapon loadout of your choosing - selecting cards from the Equipment deck and you are ready to head out into CS1.

As a side effect of the 3d rendering process, we have a large and growing range of weapons / armours / helmets etc being rendered that could be used for you to actually build the Operative that you have created! This "Arsenal" deck is a future product we plan to release along with additional weapons and equipment, beyond the scope of the initial launch.

This is not planned until Phase II of the Game, along with more characters, factions, etc but we thought we'd give you this little headsup on our longer term plans! The World of Progress is a glamorous and enticing place, a world for the Rich and powerful - and we want to get that across as much as possible into the Skirmish game.

Reton Miniature

Kickstarter Reton with Helmet and FEN AR
Kickstarter Reton with Helmet and FEN AR

 - This is a render of the KS version of Reton. You will note a few differences to the regular Retailer release miniature. This additional equipment is unique to the KS variant.

1. Helmet! Wraithen are fickle.. and some of them simply prefer to go into battle with their own senses, preferring feel of naturally hunting their prey. The Retailer version of Reton is helmetless - however the KS version comes with the option of a full Silverback Helmet, custom fitted to the Wraithen skull. If Reton is wearing this, she has her serious head on and isn't playing with her prey - she intends to take them down as fast as possible. There will be an additional equipment card with KS Reton to reflect the added abilities of the Hemet.

2. FEN AR. The FEN AR is an assault rifle, in situations where she needs to close with her prey, or perhaps is unlikely to be able to find an appropriate position for a Sniper shot - Reton utilises her FEN AR instead, relying on the Firepower and rate of fire over the accuracy of the '93. This is particularly useful in the close environs found in many areas of CS1 - such as Carrien Warrens.

Game wise, Reton uses her Silverback to augment the Wraithens' already impressive speed. She gets herself into position to take the shot - often from the highest vantage point, and getting to that vantage point in a Silverback is so easy. She is lightning quick, and deadly - she is something of a glass cannon however as Silverback is more designed for speed and not getting hit. Should the enemy land a few shots on her, the Silverback is not built to take a beating - it may be more prudent to get out of the line of fire.

Delay in KS Fulfillment
over 7 years ago – Thu, May 04, 2017 at 12:53:21 AM

Hi, Daruma Productions here with an important update on Cannibal Sector 1.

We are deeply committed to delivering the Kickstarter as promised but unfortunately will not be coming in at the promised delivery date. Don’t worry, you will still get everything as promised and Cannibal Sector 1 will be delivered, but we thought we’d give you an insight into why we are going to miss our initial deadline.

Because we are committed to a high level of quality, the timing of the project’s completion has slipped to November, 2017 and will be in two waves.

When we initially planned the Kickstarter, we didn't realise what a bottleneck miniature design would be. When Dave produces the exacting designs for our miniatures, everything needs drawing, right down to the very butt of each creature, sending Dave into fits of screaming “I need to draw everything’s ass.” Then, when the miniature renders come back, Dave then has to go over every piece to make sure it fits our exacting standards and, unfortunately, our standards are very exacting and there hasn’t been a miniature that’s not needed revisions. Unlike a typical RPG, with a miniatures game, every gun, sewer rat and SLA Klippo lighter needs designing, all of which takes time. This would normally only cause a delay in the miniature designs, but seeing as SLA Industries is a two-man show, and only one of those men does the art and art direction, if that one man is Dave, we hit a proper bottleneck, even with Dave on the project full time, as is the case. Delays in miniatures cascade down the line and create book delays.

We have decided on delivering your rewards in two waves, with the first wave starting November 2017, including the books, cards and most of the miniatures. The remaining 10 or so miniature designs, DarkNight and Dream Entities, will be delivered early 2018.

The upshot of this is that the later start in book production meant that Jared could get the SLA Industries Redux and Hunter Sheets Issue 2 released and is trying to sneak another RPG product out before starting production on Cannibal Sector 1.

Thanks for reading this far, we hope that you understand our predicament and that you’ll bear with us as we push to deliver the book and miniatures you deserve.

Around 90% of the Kickstarter, including all of the Rulebooks, Stat Cards, Glyph Cards, dice, tokens & templates, etc - everything you need to get playing, will all be in Wave 1!  Wave 2 will consist of the last 8-10 miniatures only. Digger is part of Wave 1.

Please accept a 20% discount code, valid until 9th May on our entire current range -

9TH4EVER

- with our compliments, and our heart felt thanks for all of your backing and support so far!

- We will resume normal updates as of next week, but thereafter followup on them will be fortnightly, as we will have more news to report on a bi monthly basis.

Regards

Daruma

The Manchine is on the prowl..
over 7 years ago – Tue, Apr 11, 2017 at 04:33:25 PM

Good Evening SLA Fans.

We have had a highly productive few weeks, here at SLA HQ - we have centralised all of our Warehousing with the Garment Printing and have appointed a new Ops Manager - we welcome Andy Meechan to the small but passionate SLA team. Andy has a strong track record as a project manager and is now working diligently to ensure that everything on both the KS side and the regular Retailer side of SLA moves forward smoothly and efficiently.

In addition, Jared has just completed layout and editing of the Hunter Sheets 2 and those are now being proof read for the last time, just to make sure there are no wee errors sneak in or that those Dark Night Infiltrators haven't been sabotaging his work!

Finally - for this week, we have just signed off on the Manchine! He is about to go for 3d printing and looks amazing!

Twin Cutting Saws - now what is he planning with those...?
Twin Cutting Saws - now what is he planning with those...?

This rather gruesome looking fella is a touch taller than a Scav Boss (about 42mm) so will be on a 40mm base. The KS variant comes with both the regular Drill  but also twin cutting blades - we shudder to think what he aims to cut with those.. in the game; twin cutting blades will be a bit of a buff and the KS backers will all get a special additional equipment card to reflect this kit, unique to yourselves!

The Wraithen is currently being rendered and should be signed off later this week - we are delighted with the KS variant as you guys will be getting a few nice little options that the standard Retailer version won't have - but we'll save those til next week ;)

For now, we leave you with this image of the very unpleasant Manchine Denizen - he may be Diggers smaller brethren, but you still don't want to meet him!

Miniature production is well under way!
over 7 years ago – Tue, Mar 28, 2017 at 04:29:59 PM

Good Evening SLA Fans!

Its been a busy few weeks since we closed the backerkit - we have centralised all of our stock and are now starting to build actual pledges! The backerkit data has been turned into a detailed production plan (now we have actual numbers on every component) and we are implementing that plan already.

Over 75% of the KS bags are complete and printed, with the remaining 25% due to be finished in coming weeks.

We have made a great start on the Tee shirts, now that we know the size spread and are around 25% through those.

We have the KS 3d sculpts for; Joe Fade, Rooker, Feaney, McNultie, Digger, Aetherman, Ministry and Shine already with the Manchine and Wraithen starting rendering in the next few days or so. Production on all of the resin casts for those miniatures is either underway or due to start in the next few weeks also - and then the metal moulds will be made from the Resin masters and we have a schedule in place to get a steady flow of casts every month now until we reach the KS stocking levels on every miniature.

We have an indepth and detailed plan in place for the remaining renders and will share that with you in the next week or 2!

Dave and Jared are forging ahead with the book artwork, contents and layout - and believe me, its going to be a thing of great beauty with lavish full colour illustrations, articles, stories, amazing art.. the book itself is going to be a must have for all bibliophiles out there!

The core rules are all but complete (maybe a little tweak here and there) and the factions rules are being heavily playtested. The Ebb rules are written - and are being edited for playtest right now, and are due out next month along with the Retailer Sculpts of all of the Ebb users.

Most of the other physical bits n pieces are either ready and part of the pick'n'pack plan (dice, pin badges, etc) or are in the pipeline (coins, templates, token sets, etc). So, everything is currently well under way!

You may have observed that we have had a few other very cool releases - those are strictly limited to products that Dave has not had to spend much (or any) time or resources on, we are keen that he sticks to working on the book! Don't worry, we do let him out for fresh air and the occasional beer with Jared!

So, with that in mind - we are delighted to confirm that not only is the Hardback Edition of the Hunter Sheets 2 due out in May, but the Gunslinger miniature is out in April and the Elite Shivers in HARD armour are not far off either..

Phew..its mad busy right now! Which is why, we had a wee face palm moment.. many apologies but we got many of the 3d masters for the Kickstarter Ebons, etc through the other day - double checked them for quality (superb!) and detail (awesome!) and sent them straight off to have resin masters cast from them.. without taking any photos first.. sorry about that! But we've seen them, and they are everything we hoped they'd be and more! Detailed, full of character and.. in the case of the Ebons - just a little bit creepy in their Death suits. As soon as the first production casts come back, we'll take lots of photos!

So.. on the subject of KS exclusives! We love the Aetherman, he is pretty much our favourite so far and we're going to try and ensure that most of the remaining KS exclusives are along the same lines. They will, wherever possible, have a special or cool bit of kit or extra (and card to accompany it) that the Retailer version doesn't as opposed to always being just a different pose - this will ensure that, forever, the KS version will always be a little bit special. The manchine, for example - being rendered next has some very cool kit.. unpleasant kit.. he's not a nice fella.. you don't wanna meet him in a back alley in CS1, or anywhere for that matter. Similarly we are discussing a few "cool" options for the Wraithen sniper. I guess thats our design mantra.. each of the KS exclusive sculpts has to follow the "rule of cool" - so stay tuned for a few surprises!

Right, back to work! Next weeks' update will be a little late (as I'm moving house) but we will make sure to include some very cool pictures for you! For now, let us leave you with these teasers..
