You may have guessed it already, but the theme of tonight is dice! It felt like Christmas come early at Daruma HQ today when 165kg of dice landed..
We had 7 x 25kg boxes of dice including not only all of the Kickstarter faction dice d10's but also this previously unseen Ratings d20!
These gorgeous d20's are FREE for every backer whom orders a physical component, and will be sent out with kickstarter fulfillment. Ideal both as a Ratings Tracker and also handy for a range of other games!
The rest of the boxes, and there are a few.. look something like this
In all, we have d10's for the Core 6 Factions from the Kickstarter, d20 Ratings trackers from the Kickstarter and the as-yet unannounced 7th faction for later in 2017! In addition, we have the very cool SLA RPG d10's
The RPG d10's are available to purchase now! They were an addon in the Kickstarter but you don't have to wait that long, head over to;
And order a set now! In total, these are the variations of dice we received
If you pre ordered the RPG, your SLA d10's are already enroute, if you haven't already? What you waiting for?

A Christmas Dream..

Next up in the Advent adventure, we take a look at Daves latest work - the Dream Entities!
The first few factions in CS1 are fairly straight forward - Shivers, Dark Night, Scavs, etc are primarily Biological beings - scary yes, but not too freaky or outlandish.
The Dream entities on the other hand.. are something totally diffferent..
A few weeks ago, we unveiled this rather unpleasant chap
As you can see immediately, this Creature (?) is unlike anything else in the World of Progress - not quite one thing or another, but totally unique and entirely unnatural.
Dave has been working hard on fleshing (?) out the rest of the Dream entity line up, and they are beginning to take shape. Within the Dream Entity Faction the Master is the most powerful Entity, and he keeps the rest of the lesser entities under control through sheer strength of will. Whereas many of the other factions work together toward a common goal or enemy - the Dream Entity Master retains control through domination.
On the table, these will play as a radically different force to any other faction - for one thing, they want to be seen.. they want you to earn Ratings points because that means that more people are tuning in and seeing them.. The Dream Entities deal in fear, illusion and confusion.. they are totally insidious and even the lesser entities are freakish and somehow.. wrong.
Take this unpleasant lass, for example
The Titter is a vicious little Entity, often using props such as Oopsy Daisy and Oinky Boinky to reinforce the impression of it being a lost child, or some other being in need of help.. turning the tables at the last minute as its uses its power of illusion to lure its victims into traps that are only revealed when its too late. Thats not to say that the Titter is unable to deal with its victims in a more direct fashion - those claws aren't just for show and the Titter is as vicious in melee as it is cunning in the hunt.
Our Rules Development team are beginning to put together the line up for the Dream Entities - alongside the Master you will find the Titters, Green Horrors, Screamers and.. if you are very unlucky you may even encounter the Figment. We will be unveiling more art for these horrific beings in coming weeks, but for now.. if you have a Dream Entity Problem, who you gonna call?
- luckily, our Sculptor is starting work on the solution to the Dream Entity problem this week. The Aetherman! We will save him for a future update though.

Advent Day 4 - lets look at a few minis!

We must have been very good this year as Santa has just dropped off some gorgeous packages for us.. Well.. ok it was the Postman but we are just as excited as a kid on Xmas morning.
We have just received the Master 3d prints for Joe Fade, Rooker and McNultie! After a quick inspection we are taking them straight to the Post Office where they are journeying onwards to the Resin casters, a quick remaster and they will be with our metal mould maker and into production!
So, which do we show you first..? Hmm.. Ok.. lets lead off with Joe Fade!
You can see the detail from the photo - its gorgeous, this is the Retailer version (we will be 3d printing the KS poses as a batch next spring) and even he comes with a choice of FEN AR or Vibro sword and Blitzer, plus 3 head options.
Next up is Shiver Sgt Rooker of the 1st Division!
Once again, the detail is sharp and deep - these will cast up beautifully. You also get a choice of 2 heads with him, lets take a closer look at those;
Rooker is a serious bad ass, only a confident and strong Commander would dare take his helmet off in the Sector!
And.. my personal favourite.. i have been awaiting this moment for 20 years.. Ladies, Gentlemen and Xenos.. i present to you our very first Frother, McNultie!
And, if that weren't enough - we have also made a few accessories..
There is some serious ordnance across those 3 miniatures, a bit of scope for conversion and HUGE Sword, whats not to love?
"Dear Santa,
I have been a very good boy this year and what i would like is.. MORE FROTHERS!!!"
Now, if only we had the Stat cards to put those 3 bad boys on the table to lay down some beatstick...

Advent day 3! A little bit about the Skirmish game
almost 8 years ago
– Wed, Dec 14, 2016 at 10:59:00 PM
We had planned on showing you a couple of very cool photographs today, but unfortunately.. the post has delayed that a little as the subjects haven't landed yet.. hopefully we can revisit those tomorrow! They are awesomely cool, and well worth the wait!
Instead, we thought we'd share a few of our design philosophies behind the Skirmish game and where we are at with it.
Firstly, we want to give a big heart felt thank you to all of you out there whom have been helping us playtest and refine the CS1 Core Rules. After many months, and (literally) hundreds of games being played in both the UK and Overseas - we are now almost at the final iteration of the Core Rules. That is, to be specific, the Core Mechanics behind the Game and how they work. We are still testing the Factions and will be doing so for a few months to come - but they don't need to be locked down until a couple of months after the Core Rules chapter goes into the CS1 Book so are not quite so urgent.
The Rules that we have now, we are referring to as the Core Rules - and that is for a very specific reason that we shall revisit at a later date ;) Our Lead Designers are Brad and Andy, known collectively as "Brandy" to save typing time. They have been working diligently for quite some time now to ensure that the rules;
a) Feel like SLA Industries
b) Are robust, well written, smooth and each is fully explained and defined.
c) Are fun!
- They have, thus far, achieved all 3 admirably. The Rules, as they stand now, are simple to pick up and play but challenging to master. And thats pretty much how we want them to be.
On release of the Game (June 2017) we will have the full 6 Core Factions fully fleshed out and Starter Patrols for each. The SLA Ops are behaving more like a Merc faction as they don't have faction-specific rules, each Operative being a star in their own right so we aren't classing them as a faction although you are free to lay down a force consisting only of Slops! This will be fun, but winning some of the Objective Scenarios with them will be a challenge. There will be a 7th Faction announced later in 2017 but for now, we will have the first 6 fully ready; Shivers / Carrien / Cannibals / Dark Night / Scavs and Dream Entities.
Each Faction has its own unique flavour, each plays in a different fashion to any of the others and, within each faction, you can further tweak your playstyle by simply changing the Patrol Commander. i.e. In a Carrien Pack - the Alpha is a well balanced and very helpful Commander, he buffs much of the pack and gives them extra abilities and punch. He's an excellent choice for an all rounder, Ragman on the other hand.. well.. he's not quite so useful for the Pack but he is a Ninja Assassin capable of taking on swathes of enemies and eliminating Enemy Commanders with ease. He can even go toe to toe with a SLA Op. As a leader however.. he is somewhat lacking and the rest of the pack will go down far more quickly when he is around. Drekk and Barb are different again.. the choice of leader is yours and your Patrol will function differently depending on that choice.
The game itself plays beautifully, and that Ratings system.. adds a level of complexity and challenge that will make the most experience gamer pause for thought.
And give it a go! You can even pick up a 2 player starter set right now to play with!
Go on! Have a game this Christmas ! Mr Slayer insists...

Advent day 2 - a look at an old favourite
almost 8 years ago
– Wed, Dec 14, 2016 at 07:01:20 PM
Some of the older fans may remember that SLA Industries was written and created by Nightfall Games waaayy back in the day. At the Core of Nightfall are the amazingly talented creative team of Dave Allsop and Jared Earle.
For many fans, the Artwork of SLA Industries and unique imagery are a big part of what makes the game stand out in their minds. Dave has created hundreds of pieces of unique art over the last 20 something years.
We spoke to Jared earlier and asked him what his favourite piece of artwork is from the last 20+ years of SLA Industries. He replied,
"Hmm. Favourite SLA art …
"
"Probably Dave's "Cherry Hinton" piece.
Not just because it was one of my characters, but because once Dave did it, it tied up a whole look and feel for the corporate side of SLA and was very "media/corporate" in its backstory, demonstrating one of SLA's unique aspects."
"It was also very SLA, in so much as it was a Dave piece, in pencil, in black and white, with blurb."
"It felt uniquely SLA, right down to the buttoned down suit, serious look and daft badge."
- For both Dave and Jared, SLA Industries is more than a labour of love. They have breathed life into and given form to the wonderful, diverse and rich Setting that is the World of Progress. The new CS1 Sourcebook will contain not only a great deal of brand new artwork (much of it never before seen - and we will be keeping it under wraps for the "Big Reveal" when the book goes to print) but also an indepth look at the Main Factions, Characters, Equipment, History and Story of Cannibal Sector 1. There is a great deal of material in here that is totally brand new - and a few fan favourites.
Come back tomorrow, and see what is behind door number 3!
