SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1

Created by Daruma Productions

Torn from the pages of the science-fiction horror RPG "SLA Industries", Cannibal Sector 1 comes to life in this tabletop skirmish game.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Update IV from the team at Nightfall Games
over 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 07, 2018 at 08:07:35 PM

Hello everyone!

Even though some of the team have been holidaying since our last update, we have not been idle:

Dave has produced 2 more art pieces and in a surprisingly short amount of time, has colourised 6 of his old black and white art pieces. These will be used to fill any unexpected gaps in the Cannibal Sector 1 sourcebook (or saved for later publications). Dave has also written around 14k more words towards the book. Shep and Mark are also working on writing some of the other text needed to complete the project. Our second artist has done most of what he needed to on his current project and will move to his part of the remaining art in 2 week’s time, (when he returns from vacation).

Status:

We are still awaiting progress on the Daruma liquidation. The Daruma director, has let us know that things are progressing (albeit slowly). We will let you know as soon as we have more information.

The new Nightfall logo for 2018

As we move forward with a new Nightfall team we have decided to update the logo. You can see the new see this in the photos below.

Professionally Painted Miniatures

We are working through the newer and older models, getting what we can professionally painted and photographed, as you can see we really have some amazing models and some rather talented painters on board for this project:

The Rules PDF

Mark and Shep are meeting at the end of the week to finalise the plans for the rules. There was a couple of things we want to ‘fix’, (the way in which Denizens appear, Vehicles and making it possible to use multiple Operatives in a patrol). We have had some great conversations with a number of those that have contributed to the rules so far and believe that we are now very close to being able to release a final version. We also are conscious that the current rules use A LOT of cards during game play and we believe that this could quickly become cumbersome in larger games, as such we are taking steps to ensure the set up and layout of patrols is a streamlined as possible.

So what next?

On Saturday, we will share the conclusions on the rules work taking place this week and should be in a position to share our intentions to complete the KS.

Update from the team at Nightfall Games III
over 6 years ago – Sun, Jul 22, 2018 at 01:10:19 AM

Hello everyone!

So, as promised, our frequency of updates will increase, so now, less than a week after the last one here we go again:

Status

You can see from the above that a number of items are currently with the liquidators (pink), the remaining items are either in Nighfall’s ownership (Green and Blue) or are to be made (red) or are in process (amber). We are in the final stages for the Chagrin render and will be starting the Sector Ranger and Shaktar next.

  • Blue: Complete and in Nightfall's ownership
  • Green: In production and in Nightfall's ownership
  • Amber: Being prepared and in Nightfall's ownership
  • Red: Have not been started by Daruma, and are yet to be started by Nightfall Games
  • Pink: Made by Daruma and with the liquidator.

Rules

The rules are owned by the company KORE Aeronauticals. Over the last few weeks we have been negotiating with them on the ad infinitum use for SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector One. Fortunately, and although it was looking likely that we would not be allowed to use them, Kore and the originating rules writer have agreed that Nightfall can use the rules for the game. Now this is clarified, Nightfall's team are working on finalising the ruleset. We expect this to take 3-6 weeks. Once done we will finish layout and send the A5 to print.

Critters:

The Critter pack is quite a large job, because it needs 3 very different sculpts:

1. Puddle Hermit - Fairly sedentary, Puddle Hermits can grow to over 4 foot high. They absorb the stagnant standing water from their namesakes, purifying and condensing the toxins and poisons contained within the brackish water in their bodies. If a denizen passes too close they are likely to be targeted by a large flob of the concentrated toxin, which will corrode armour and dissolved flesh and bone within seconds. The Puddle Hermits tend to target the face and neck, often blinding their target.

2. Arachnids - The innocuous (other than being spider-esque) Arachnids build large communal webs. The foolhardy operative may think nothing of the wispy threads at first, walking further into the trap, where the web thickens. At first, the threads are no more than an annoyance, then as more attach themselves to the victim, it becomes harder to move, taking more energy to put one foot in front of the other. Gradually the unsuspecting victim will tire, then be stilled by exhaustion; that is the moment that the swarm descend and the victim ends.

3. Carnivorous Pig - Originally bred for food, the pigs of Cannibal Sector One have been roaming the streets since the Fall, as the 'A1 Crawley's Slaughterhouse' slid into the sewers. The pigs are more akin to wild boars in their temperament; although generally pink and hairless, they are aggressive, muscular and powerfully built with gaping maws full of flint-like teeth that can bite a Frother's limb from her body without difficulty. The Pigs tend to roam in herds and will eat pretty much anything, but prefer meat (ideally warm, still living and screaming meat). A solitary pig can be an attractive prize for an Operative, but their death-squeals will quickly attract the herd.

Each KS Critter pack will include a Carnivorous Pig, a Base of Puddle Hermits, a Base of Arachanids and then a larger Puddle Hermit and Arachanid. So 5 models in total:

Important:

  • There is a significant shortfall between what Nightfall Games understood was completed and what is in the inventory.
  • Therefore the investments Nightfall Games have secured are approximately half of what is needed to complete this Kickstarter.
  • This means we will either need to cut back on some of the unlocks, work out alternatives or raise further funds through sales or investment (likely it will be a mixture of all three).

Our intention over the next 2 weeks is to define what we can and cannot do. It is clear to us, that this is a miniatures game and it needs the rulebooks, so those things are our priority.

So what next?

As we hit the holiday season in the UK, it is likely that our next update will be on the 6th August.

Update from the team at Nightfall Games
over 6 years ago – Mon, Jul 16, 2018 at 05:26:30 PM

Hello everyone!

A lot has happened since the last update here.

  • The Directorship of Daruma has ‘called in’ the liquidators. This is a legal procedure which has due processes. The next stage is to commission the liquidators.
  • Word Forge Ltd. has bought a major share of Nightfall Games. With this investment Nightfall are working towards completion of the Kickstarter as our only aim. (Link to Companies House Entry)

Kickstarter Status

1. All Daruma assets (including everything SLA:CS1) are in the hands of the liquidator.

2. Nightfall have rescinded the licence to Daruma for SLA:CS1

3. A significant amount of miniatures and art have been retained by the manufacturers, (under a retention of title for non-payment from Daruma). Word Forge Games and Nightfall Games are the manufacturers in these cases, meaning these items are in the current ownership of Nightfall Games Ltd.

4. Nightfall have also bought directly from a number of suppliers various SLA Industries items (3d masters, moulds and casts), that the said suppliers had retained under a retention of title for non-payment from Daruma.

5. Nightfall Ltd has been working on various KS items that had not been made by Daruma (see below).

313 Stormers

We are very excited to reveal the 313 Stormers. Our renderer has very kindly made us 4 variants of the Stormer. The 1st will be the KS Exclusive one:

This Masked 313 Stormer will be the KS Exclusive!

And the remaining 3 will be the retail version:

The Stormer Patrol Squad sees two armed with the FEN Reaver and one armed with Chuckledusters

Art Progress

Our artist continues to work through the remaining artwork in his spare time, as do the writing and book layout teams. We have also commissioned a second artist who will start working for Nightfall in August.

An all new art from D. Allsop.
An all new art from D. Allsop.

Additionally, our writing team has increased from the original 2, to the lofty heights of 3. We are also in talks with a number of experienced RPG writing contractors.  The addition of more artists and writers will speed up the process of completing main book.

This diagram represents the art for the SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1 kickstarter:

  • Orange: Completed
  • Grey: Environments - the current focus
  • Blue: Combat scenes  - now with our new artist.
  • Red: Chapter headers
  • White: Cover - this will be last.

So what next?

The Nightfall team will continue to work on what we can, while we wait for further clarity on the Daruma liquidation. As soon as we have any news for you we will share it here. We know we need to tell you more and as soon as we can we will.

Important Update from Nightfall Games
over 6 years ago – Sat, Jun 23, 2018 at 01:39:04 AM

As of 22/06/2018 Nightfall Games Ltd (NFG) have terminated the license agreement with Daruma Productions Ltd for use of SLA material. Going forward NFG will work in association with Word Forge Games (WFG) to look at how best to complete and fulfill the Kickstarter. Be advised that at this time the SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1 Kickstarter campaign has no available funds. As such, fulfillment will be as a result of further investment from NFG and WFG. Drauma Productions Ltd is the company that still owns the Kickstarter debt, and although we have tried to purchase that debt, it has not been possible.

That’s the formal statement... but what does that mean to you, the backer? Well simply put, things have not worked out as planned. The Kickstarter dream that Daruma Productions Ltd pushed for was not realised. Exactly how and what went wrong we really can’t say at this point, but we at Nightfall Games recognise that SLA Industries needs to come out on top… and the game needs to be in your hands. As such, Nightfall Games has revoked the license that allowed the SLA Industries world and setting to be used by Daruma Productions Ltd and has formed a new relationship with Word Forge Games. WFG have a huge amount of experience in producing miniatures and miniature games and are working alongside us to consolidate what already exists for SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1, what is possible to finish off and what we can do get the game into your hands.

As you’ve probably seen on Facebook, work on the book, the main focus of the Kickstarter, has been ongoing in spite of setbacks. WFG has obtained the majority of the Daruma Productions Ltd SLA Industries stock (in lieu of payment for unpaid debt) and we are in a good place to resume the work on the Kickstarter once all of the legal crossed Ts and dotted Is have been dealt with.

WFG will be completing a stock take during the next 2 weeks and once we know exactly what there is, we will share with you all and explain our plans in further detail. We are also in discussions over certain assets, which we expect resolution of in the same period.

We know you have not been treated as you (or we) would like to have been and we know this situation is far from ideal (believe us when we say, we wish this had played out differently), but please bear with us while we work out the details and figure out how best to do right by all of you awesome people that supported the campaign. We shall keep you updated as much as we can going forward – expect frequent updates and lots of work by the Nightfall team.

Our heartfelt thanks, apologies and respect,

Nightfall Games

Another bug hunt..
over 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 05, 2018 at 12:54:09 AM

Good Evening all, its been a while since our last post and we have been busy bringing to life more characters. Its been very busy and apologies for lack of info. We have had work initiated on no less than 5 renders..

The first of them is the Arachnid, and he is ready for 3d printing: he's a cute wee fella and will be part of the Critter pack but don't mistake his cuteness for lack of danger. The Renders for several of his friends and 1 or 2 of his enemies are also approaching completion and we will show those off when they are finished, although they are already underway and at various stages of completion.

The current wave of renders are for several of the Critters, 2 of the characters (we will show you which 2 very soon) and the last render.. well.. is a bit of a pig of a job to be honest.

The Online store is currently down, as we reorganise stock with a new distributor whom will also be dealing with the store side of things.
