Progress Update from Nightfall Games
about 6 years ago – Mon, Sep 10, 2018 at 04:58:48 PM

Hi everyone.

We have seen a number of progressions this week. Most noticeably, we now have the 3D prints for the Shiver Medic, Sector Ranger Squad, KS exclusive Sector Ranger and KS exclusive Shaktar. Additionally we have rescaled 2 models that were gifted to Daruma by Word Forge Games, who have now gifted them to Nightfall Games, namely the Brainwaster, formerly known as the Gunslinger (now called Flint) and the Shiver APC vehicle. Both of these will be cast by Word Forge Games and will hopefully be with us at Chillcon.

Pink are with the liquidators, Green are in production, Amber is being rendered or moulds made, Red is yet to be done, Blue are complete and with the liquidator and Black are back of the queue or unlikely to happen.

PDF Rules

All is on track with the rules, Mark and Shep are play testing next weekend, and we expect to give the completed rules to Jared next Monday, so he can layout the PDF.

Art

As mentioned last week, our team has swelled to the point we now have 4 artists. Dave has been joined by Clint Langley and Jon Hodgson, as well as SLA newcomer Dominik Kasprzycki, who has worked on many RPG and Board games including Mutant Chronicles, Conan, Warzone Resurrection, Devil's Run and D-Day Dice.

Orange is complete. Grey is scenics in process, Blue is combat in process, Red is Chapter headers (2 page beauties) - 1 of these is already complete and 4 are in process. Meaning only 3 Chapter Headers and the Cover (White) are yet to be done.

Dave has also continued to work on the recolourisation project:

 Player's map

As we get tantalisingly close to release of the PDF rules we should you might like to register as a SLA Industries player here: SLA PLAYER GLOBAL MAP

And Finally:

Nightfall Games would like to thank Tanya, who like Chris last week, kindly sent us some SLA items (T-Shirt and pin badges) she had bought, so we could distribute them to other KS backers. Tanya, thank you for your generosity!

Progress Report from Nightfall Games
about 6 years ago – Mon, Sep 03, 2018 at 12:53:27 AM

Hello again everyone.

Liquidation

We are still awaiting progress from the liquidation process for Daruma. It seems a lot of the information that the liquidators need are not readily at hand. Both Nightfall Ltd and Word Forge Ltd have offered to help do all that is needed to move things forward, but as yet this has not happened.

Rules PDF

The Rules PDF has been proof read now and Shep is putting the corrections into place. Here is the status of the following faction rules we will include for the game and their status:

Note: the 9th will be playable using the Shiver ruleset, until the 9th ruleset is released.
Note: the 9th will be playable using the Shiver ruleset, until the 9th ruleset is released.

Next week we are play testing again, then we will pass to Jared for layout.

Shiver Medic

I was discussing the Shivers with our 3D artist and mentioned that they had a Medic. He asked to see the art so I shared. A few days later I received a render, and will soon receive a 3D master, with the words 'Happy Birthday!' How cool?! This will become a part of the commercially available Shiver squad and will be something that you could swap your KS credits for:

Art and Writing for the A4

Dave has reduced his writing rate a little so that he can earn some money else where, but he is still pumping out a fair few words a week. Jared, Shep and Mark have all contributed, so overall the rate of writing is still at around 1000 words a day. Dave has also continued on his colourising project and we are now down to just 9 arts to be done (8 Chapter headers and the Cover). Dominik has completed his first art for the project and I am very excited to announce that Clint Langley has accepted a commission from us! Next week, we hope to be able to announce the return of another SLA old master too!

A shout out!

Last week, we received a small stock return from a retailer (which Word Forge swapped for some Devil's Run product) for some SLA Merchandise. This means that we have 3 more bags towards fulfilling the pledges when the time comes, as well as some T-Shirts and miniatures too. Being that these were bought by WFG means that they belong to WFG and are independent of the liquidation process. Thanks Chris for the swap and thinking of us.

Hi to Everyone from the Nightfall Team.

Sector Rangers

The Sector Ranger KS exclusive pose is complete:

This model will make an interesting Denizen for your games or may be added to the roster for any of the aligned Factions.

The retail set includes the following models and will allow you to play the Sector Rangers as a faction.

Nightfall's SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1 Miniatures Game.

Shep, Mark and Ste (mainly Shep if we are honest - that man is a beast), have spent over 60 hours this week finalising the rules for PDF release. The document, Denizens and 6 of the factions are written up and being proofread at the moment. Final Play testing has commenced and should be complete in 2 weeks. Then we go to layout! The document will be laid out from scratch so that will take a week or two.

More Splash Art to share:

The following arts are colourised older arts (all by Dave Allsop):

New IMPORTANT Update from Nightfall
over 6 years ago – Mon, Aug 20, 2018 at 01:48:26 AM

Important:

In out previous updates we let you know that some changes would need to be made going forwards, as we simply do not have the budget to produce all of the things that were offered by Daruma during the Kickstarter. When the budgeting was done for investment to ensure this campaign was completed, Nightfall believed all of these items already existed, but it turns out that was not the case. Some of you have let us know your views on what we should cut back on and we were pretty aligned in our own thoughts.

  • There is some stock of the following: Bags, T-Shirts, Dice Bags and Hoodies. While we can fulfil the ones we have, we will not be able to make anymore.
  • During the campaign only 3 sets of DarkNight and 3 sets of the Dream Entities were ordered. We do not have the budget to make these (£3,000-4,000) at present, hence they will not be offered at this point. In the longer term we hope that demand for the miniatures game will grow and when it does, these miniatures will be top of the list to be produced. When that happens we will offer a significant discount on them to the people that have pledged for them this time around.
  • The Necanthrope and Vevaphon: We do not think that these units can be correctly balanced for use in a small Skirmish game. Those of you that know SLA Industries will know these things are super-powerful and having them in a game that sees a patrol of 5-10 models go up against an opponent with a single Necanthrope just doesn’t create the experience that CS1 set out to achieve. We also don’t think we need more super powerful Denizens in the game, given the presence of those already out there.
  • Finally, some models are at the back of the queue and their likelihood depends on what sales we can make in the mean time. At the moment they are black, but we hope that they will move to actual in the following few months (ExWar Criminal and Xenos Stormer).
Pink: with Liquidators, Green: With us and done, Yellow: in process, Red: in the queue, Blue: Complete, Black: on hold or cancelled.
Pink: with Liquidators, Green: With us and done, Yellow: in process, Red: in the queue, Blue: Complete, Black: on hold or cancelled.
These are items produced independent of the Kickstarter, but part of the CS1 game.
These are items produced independent of the Kickstarter, but part of the CS1 game.

What does that mean then?

Our intention is to offer all of you that are expecting any of the things mentioned above (or anything else with a BLACK box in the table below) an alternative:

In the ‘Swap this OUT at the stated £’ column, you will see a number or NA. If NA, the item can not be swapped out. If a number, that is the £ value you can swap out for. Equally, in the ‘Swap this IN at the stated £’ you will see a number or NA. If NA the item can not be swapped in. If a number, that is the £ value you can swap that item in for.

For example, a Vevaphon and a Necanthrope both have a Swap OUT value of £8 (total £16), so you could swap them for a Carnivorous Pigs set (Swap IN value: £16).

It is too early for us to be doing any swapping yet, but please have a think and we will confirm with you when the time is right.

(Note: the swap in and out values do not reflect final retail price – some things will rise significantly, others drop and others will not be available after the KS))

What Next?

Our next update should include images of new renders and models and also new art from Dave Allsop.

Rules..oh wonderful rules!
over 6 years ago – Sat, Aug 11, 2018 at 01:42:15 AM

Hi Everyone.

Yesterday, as promised, Mark and Shep met and spend 13 hrs playing, play testing and discussing this game. Below you will find Mark's notes on the experience. (Please note that neither of the guys had played the game before).

NFG Team.

Shep and I played CS1 yesterday, and I have to say....its great (Phew!)

POSITIVES:

  • Thematic and cinematic
  • Solid rule set, very little to change or improve.
  • Well balanced and flavoursome forces: Scavs, Shiver (inc 9th), Carrien and Cannibals.
  • Mission based is really good.
  • Time to play good: 150 points approx 90-150 mins.
  • Board size (3x3) good.
  • Operatives: Stormer, Joe Fade played. Both work well.
  • Love the 'Ratings Pool' mechanism.
  • Love the Camera concept. It plays really well without taking over the game.
  • Ebb works...need more Ebon characters :)
  • Easily expandable with new missions and can be made into an ongoing campaign mode..when we have time

ISSUES (and Solutions):

  • Some of the Factions are light on Unit types: Scavs for example (we noticed that there was a model for a Sniper Scav, which we suspect was just an upgrade variant - this can be and should be its own unit type)
  • Some Factions have rules for models we don't have (and won't for sometime considering the render queue and budgets) - Dogeybone, Mutant Carrien for example. They are not needed to balance the Faction so propose we shelve them and release rules with them.
  • 9th vs Shivers: we should consider making these more different than just paint scheme. (Ideas: TBC)
  • Carrien: No Ranged weapons. They played well in the game, but it did feel quite mono-faceted tactically. (Shep and I have some ideas).
  • Cannibals: We didn't play test them, but they (and the Pigs) look very cool and we are only 1 render away from getting them...exciting!
  • Frother Squad: We don't know how to use them in the game, but they did spark some discussion about Junior/Green SLA operatives
  • Vehicles: An easy win here and they play well too!
  • Luck vs Luck Mitigation: The 2D10 system is very random and dilutes the modifiers a lot...should a Lesser Carrien stand a near 50:50 chance to wound (significantly) a Stormer and similarly a Stormer have a near 50:50 chance not to wound (at all) a Lesser Carrien? Again we have some ideas here, Shep is going to do some dices!
  • Cards: There is a lot of cards at the moment (Each Operative needs 4 and many of the unit types 3). Given that a 150 point game has between 7-12 models, we are looking at 30 cards (and then drugs, Ebb etc). Its too much! (we have solutions).
  • Layout: The book needs some tweaks regarding layout to make navigation easier. We were thumbing back and forth a lot. Shep may have even said a swear word.

Overall, I am really pleased with what we have and clearly the team before have done an epic job. I would expect we can get it PDF publishable by the end of September deadline we set ourselves.

More on the stock status and what we will do. And hopefully some new renders to share: Sector Ranger is looking good and the Chagrins too!
